Project overview

Farrat provided a complete acoustic isolation system, along with a post installation quality assurance inspection for The Hyde Park, Picture House in Leeds.

The Challenge

One of the UK’s oldest cinemas, the Grade II Hyde Park Picture House underwent a significant £4.8m renovation with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Leeds City Council which completed in June 2023. Farrat were tasked with designing and manufacturing a detailed acoustic isolation solution for this unique and iconic building.

Working closely with the appointed Acoustic Technician, our products and solutions ensured there was minimal noise intrusion from the 50-seat screen into an adjacent residential property which shared a party wall with the auditorium.

The Solution

As part of a comprehensive solution Farrat’s Cine range provided bespoke acoustic isolation for the 50-seat screen including the seating columns flooring system and adjoining walls off this architecturally beautiful piece of local history. Our acoustic isolation solution is functional to the point where the in-situ performance of elements of this unique design is twice as high as that required in a new-build Odeon development. Following completion, the reverberation times and ambient noise levels also represent close-to-perfect acoustic conditions for the screening and enjoyment of film.

Our vast expertise in this area ensured a seamless end to end service from the design and consultancy to full installation. The Farrat Cine range is an excellent choice for acoustic isolation as its low damping characteristics enable a high degree of noise and vibration reduction whilst also being highly durable. To have achieved these results within a heritage structure is an outstanding result and a testament to our Cine range.
