Delivering High-Performance Acoustic Isolation at Clifford Chance's Landmark Headquarters, 2 Aldermanbury Square

United Kingdom

Located in the heart of the City of London, 2 Aldermanbury Square is home to the prestigious headquarters of global law firm Clifford Chance. Designed to provide a modern and high-quality workplace for its employees, the fit-out required careful consideration of acoustic performance, particularly around the building’s internal gym facility.

To maintain a comfortable and productive working environment, it was essential to minimise the transfer of noise and vibration from the gym into surrounding office spaces. Working alongside Celtic Contractors, with Hassell as the architect and Overbury as the main fit-out contractor, Farrat was selected to deliver an acoustic isolation solution capable of meeting both the project’s performance requirements and tight deadline.

The Challenge

In premium office developments such as 2 Aldermanbury Square, managing structure-borne noise is critical to ensuring workplace comfort. The project team required an effective wall isolation solution that would prevent noise and vibration generated within the gym from transferring into neighbouring workspaces.

Alongside the technical requirements, the project faced a significant scheduling challenge. Materials were required on site within an exceptionally short timeframe to avoid delays to the wider fit-out programme, placing pressure on suppliers to deliver without compromising quality or performance.

The Solution

Specified by Sandy Brown, Farrat’s CineWALL MAX (Double Layer) system was selected to acoustically isolate the partition walls surrounding the gym facility. The installation incorporated:

  • Farrat CineWALL MAX (Double Layer)
  • Farrat CineWALL Acoustic Washers

Together, these products provided reliable, high-performance acoustic isolation, helping to control noise and vibration transmission while supporting the building’s overall acoustic objectives.

Why Farrat?

Farrat was selected for a combination of technical and project delivery strengths, including:

  • Proven acoustic performance
  • Certified and compliant solutions
  • Technical expertise and support
  • Ability to meet a demanding project programme

When a short lead time threatened to impact the construction schedule, Farrat responded quickly, manufacturing and delivering the required materials to site within just three working days of receiving the order. This rapid turnaround ensured the fit-out programme remained on track while providing the acoustic performance needed for a modern workplace environment.
