Creating social value through the environment.

We are engineers on a mission to support a better world, and as such, we look to reduce our negative impact on the environment and find new ways to increase efficiency and cut waste.

We have taken a number of steps to reduce the amount of power that we use. We generate quite a lot of our own using natural resources. The roof of our offices in Altrincham are covered with solar panels, and since 2013 they have produced circa 15,000 kWh per year that we are able to use on site.

Our work on developing structural thermal breaks to reduce heat loss through building envelopes is well documented. and includes finer structural details such as façade system supports, balcony attachments, data centre substructures, and rooftop plant installations.

We have a new energy monitoring system which allows us to monitor energy flowing to all of our manufacturing equipment. We have adopted Industry 4.0 standards in digitising our documentation, so the paper is only ever used when there is no other option. And when we do it is either recycled or FSC sourced.

Our commitment to sustainability is a core value that influences every aspect of our business, including how we select our suppliers. We understand that achieving our sustainability goals requires strong partnerships with suppliers who share our dedication to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and ethical practices. Here is an overview of how we choose suppliers to support our sustainability objectives.

Amorim Cork

Environmental Impact: Amorim Cork is a global leader in the production of cork materials, a renewable and sustainable resource. Cork is harvested from cork oak trees without harming them, allowing the trees to continue absorbing carbon dioxide and contributing to biodiversity. Amorim Cork’s operations emphasise minimal environmental impact through energy-efficient processes and waste reduction.

They follow rigorous guidelines for cork harvesting, ensuring that the bark is removed only every nine years, which is crucial for the health of the trees. This practice not only supports forest ecosystems but also combats desertification and supports rural economies.

Amorim Cork holds various environmental certifications, including Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, which guarantees that their cork is sourced responsibly. The company continuously invests in research and development to create innovative cork products that can replace less sustainable materials, furthering their contribution to a circular economy.
