Mega City, Slough: Delivering High-Performance Bowling Lane Isolation Within Tight Spatial Constraints

London, Regno Unito

Located in Slough, Mega City is a vibrant leisure destination designed to provide visitors with a premium entertainment experience. As part of the development, a new 10-lane bowling alley was incorporated into the facility, requiring an effective flooring solution capable of delivering excellent vibration isolation while working within the project’s architectural limitations.

Traditional floating floor systems are often used beneath bowling lanes to control vibration and improve player experience. However, at Mega City, restricted floor build-up height and spatial constraints meant that a conventional floating floor solution could not be accommodated within the available space.

This challenge led the project team to seek an alternative that would provide the required performance without compromising the building design.

The Challenge

The bowling alley required a flooring system that could:

  • Deliver reliable vibration isolation and performance for ten bowling lanes.
  • Operate within limited floor depth restrictions.
  • Support the long-term durability and functionality expected in a busy leisure environment.
  • Be installed efficiently without impacting the wider project programme.

With a traditional floating floor ruled out due to space limitations, the team needed a solution that combined a low-profile design with high levels of performance.

The Farrat Solution

Farrat was selected to design and supply BowlFLOOR LITE, a specialist bowling lane isolation system developed specifically for situations where available construction depth is limited.

BowlFLOOR LITE provides the performance benefits of a bowling lane isolation system while significantly reducing the floor build-up typically associated with more traditional floating floor constructions. This made it the ideal choice for the Mega City project.

Working closely with the project team, Farrat delivered a tailored solution that met the site’s technical requirements while fitting seamlessly within the available space.

The Outcome

The installation of BowlFLOOR LITE enabled the successful delivery of the 10-lane bowling facility without compromising on performance or design requirements.

By overcoming the site’s spatial limitations, Farrat helped create a bowling environment that offers players a high-quality experience while supporting the long-term operational needs of the venue.

The project demonstrates how innovative engineering solutions can help leisure developments achieve demanding performance objectives, even when faced with challenging construction constraints.

For Mega City, BowlFLOOR LITE provided the perfect balance of performance, practicality and efficient use of space, ensuring the bowling alley could be delivered exactly as intended.
