Consultancy

We offer consultancy in all areas of the business:

Thermal Modelling of point and linear thermal bridging
3d thermal modelling of point and linear thermal bridges to optimise the thermal performance of a building and ensure connections won’t lead to growth of mould within the building. We also support OEMs developers and system / MMC specialists with product and system development.

Controlling vibration in manufacturing and industrial equipment
Working with clients around the globe throughout the lifecycle of the machinery, we support operators troubleshoot when vibration affects neighbours, nearby machinery, workers and productivity / Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE = output, quality, availability). We also assist with planning factory layout and the installation of new machinery and we also support OEMs develop and launch new and refurbish machine tools.

Building Vibration Isolation System Design
Since the decoupling of a new or existing building from a groundborne or structure-borne noise source is complex and often requires collaboration and coordination of the entire design team, Farrat have crafted a range of services to allow our experience and design capabilities to guide and support the developer and or contractor and their design team through the process to end up with a design that not only meets the acoustic specification requirements but is also buildable, robust and designed for the life of the building.

There's always a way

  1. Maximise: the value and performance of your building / industrial machinery
  2. Minimise: the time and hassle required to achieve workable, compliant solutions as well as the overall project cost
  3. Optimise and de-risk: your project through effective, collaborator design support and professional service to deliver quality and performance assured products on time.
  4. Overcome: Technically complex engineering challenges from concept right through to handover in a constructive and honest way.

Consultancy Services in more detail

Thermal Modelling of point and linear thermal bridging

Having completed a PhD where we developed and validated our 3d thermal modelling capabilities with a full-scale test of a point thermal bridge in the University of Salford’s Energy House, Farrat is at the cutting edge of understanding the effects of point and linear thermal bridges in buildings.

Examples of how it can support your project include:

  • Quantifying the effect of thermal bridge(s) on a building
  • Quantifying the position and number of thermal bridge(s) in a building
  • Design of thermal bridge connections, particularly in buildings like cold stores where thermal performance is critical
  • Establishing the minimal / optimal thickness of the StruktraTM plate, for example to ensure it will always be above the critical temperature factor in order to avoid internal condensation that could lead to mould growth
  • Supporting OEMs, developers and system / MMC specialists with product and system development

To support our ongoing KTP with University of Salford’s Energy House 2 we are looking for developers and designers to collaborate with by providing access to real world applications that can be monitored and analysed over multiple thermal cycled.

Controlling vibration in manufacturing and industrial equipment

Working with clients around the globe throughout the lifecycle of the machinery, we support OEMs develop and launch new and refurbish machine tools as well as supporting operators plan the installation of new machinery and troubleshoot when vibration affects neighbours, nearby machinery, workers and productivity / Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE = output, quality, availability).

This is an integral part of our offering to industrial clients as to be able to solve and troubleshoot problems caused by vibration, we must first understand them. All our vibration measurement and vibration analysis are carried out on-site using portable instrumentation and we respond rapidly to requests for assistance around the world.

Our services typically start with one of the following:

Outline / concept design:
Where Farrat collaborate with structural engineer, acoustic consultant, architect and developer to develop a functional, buildable and cost-effective building vibration isolation system concept, including pros and cons of the options available to then end up with a clear strategy including where the isolation line passes through the building, an understanding of typical details and a high level budget.

Detailed design:
We can either start here or continue from where we left off in the outline / concept design. The goal is to end up with a comprehensive design that is ready for manufacture and construction.

Every building, its surroundings, the legislative requirements, the client’s vision and expectations and design team approaches is different, and each aspect can have a marked influence on the eventual design. This makes for particularly interesting work.
