The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities at Oxford
The Project
The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre at the University of Oxford is a groundbreaking educational and cultural hub dedicated to the humanities. This six-story development integrates seven faculties, six libraries, and an array of cutting-edge performance and recording spaces, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and artistic expression. The majority of these spaces are located within a two-story basement, designed to accommodate high-performance acoustic environments for lectures, rehearsals, performances, and film screenings.
Key Value We Brought to the Project
Working on behalf of the main contractor, Farrat was responsible for delivering comprehensive acoustic isolation solutions across key performance and teaching spaces. Our scope included the design, manufacture, testing, and installation of floating floors and bearing assemblies, as well as on-site installation support and inspection of the Building Isolation System to meet the project’s exacting specifications.
To ensure optimal acoustic performance, Farrat supplied and installed 1,425m² of bespoke floating floors and 119 steel-rubber bearing assemblies across spaces such as the 500-Seater Concert Hall, 250-Seater Lecture Theatre, 100-Seater Film Screening Theatre, Black Box Theatre, Rehearsal Room, Ensemble Room, and Music Studios 1 & 2.
By delivering high-performance acoustic isolation solutions tailored to the project’s unique requirements, Farrat played a key role in ensuring that the Schwarzman Centre’s performance spaces achieve world-class acoustic standards.
