Multi-screen cinema with market-leading acoustic isolation wins Best Project in Leisure award

The new multi-screen cinema in Glasgow – with acoustic isolation carried out by Farrat – has won the Best Project in Leisure award at the first-ever Scottish Structural Awards.

The new Scottish Structural Awards is set to celebrate the best structural projects completed over the last two years by Scottish design engineers with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility as well as innovative building design.

Farrat are proud to share that the winner of the ‘Best Project in Leisure’ award – the new Vue International multi-screen cinema at the St. Enoch shopping centre in Glasgow – is one that we have contributed to, both manufacturing and installing our CineFLOOR MAX acoustic isolation solution.

The new cinema is part of a redevelopment project that includes 100,000 sg ft of retail and leisure space. Efficient and effective acoustic insulation in multipurpose leisure developments such as these is key to ensuring that cinemas with state-of-the-art sound can co-exist seamlessly alongside other leisure facilities.

“Being involved in a project acknowledged in these brand-new awards is very rewarding,” states Neil Wilson, Senior Project Delivery Manager at Farrat.

“Following the pandemic, the film industry’s recovery is growing, and we hope that by continuing to work with organisations committed to creative building design, efficient use of space, and the best possible acoustics and acoustic insulation, we can be a significant part of this rejuvenation.”

Market Place Bolton wins the Revo Regen Gold Award 2017

Congratulations to Bolton Council who won the Gold Re:Generate award for Market Place Bolton at last week’s Revo Awards

The awards, held Wednesday, December 6, recognise the best retail and leisure destinations, operators and the public sector bodies who work alongside them. The council won the award following the Market Place’s £23m transformational refurbishment to create a contemporary retail and leisure destination. Farrat are proud to have worked with the project team, incorporating our Acoustic Floating Floors into the new nine-screen cinema within the complex.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this award. The transformation of the centre has acted as a catalyst for further developer interest and investment in Bolton. The award is a great recognition of the work that has taken place and testament that Bolton is carving out a reputation as a place to visit and attracting shoppers back into the town centre.”

The 2nd LEAN Manufacturing Excellence Award at Farrat

Congratulations to our Waterjet Cell Leader, Andrew Williams, who received his Lean Manufacturing Fellowship  Award from The Manufacturing Institute last week.

Andy Williams awarded Lean fellowship through MI ARL Course

Last week, Farrat was proud to support Andrew Williams in receiving his Lean Manufacturing Fellowship Award from The Manufacturing Institute , at his Conferment Ceremony in Manchester.

The 2nd of our team to be awarded a Fellowship through the Accelerated Route to Learning course, Andrew undertook 10 weeks of research and study into the optimisation of Farrat’s manufacturing processes. Applying his theories within the Farrat manufacturing facility, Andrew has already enhanced our competitiveness through lead-time reduction and cost saving. Supporting Andrew through this training is part of our commitment to continuous improvement. We’re delighted for Andrew and his achievement, and look forward to continuing improving our performance and reputation within the UK manufacturing sector.

Farrat are delighted to have recently attended the Engineering Development Trust (EDT)
judging event for this years The Year In Industry (YINI) scheme, held on the 6th July 2016 at SP Energy Networks on the Wirral.

Farrat’s CEO Oliver Farrell awarded the “Highly Recommended” award on behalf of the IMech
E’s Power Industries Division North West Centre’ to Katie Mawdsley who worked at Procter & Gamble during her year in industry.

The winner on the day (who will go on to the national final in London) was Zoe Lockley who worked at Arcadis.

As a committee member of the Greater Manchester branch of the IMechE and the Power
Industries Division North West Centre, Oliver Farrell is dedicated to encouraging students studying science, technology, engineering, maths or related subjects to gain first-hand experience of the working world.

This remains a core objective for Farrat, who look to guide more students on a career path into engineering after welcoming an EDT year in industry student (David Moores) to the business in 2013 for the year.

Farrat expect to work with more students and apprentices in the future as part of the YINI and EDT.
