54m2 Acoustic Floating Floor

Prestigious London City Centre development

The Challenge

US hedge fund Eton Park Capital Management took the complete third floor and required a floating floor to control noise and vibration transmission from a new 54m2 gym adjacent to the office areas. The proposed gym included general fitness equipment such as treadmills, bikes, elliptical trainers and free weights and would also mean loud music being played at all times.

There were also some specific constraints relating to access into the building and the load bearing capacity of the structural floors.

The Solution

In order to ensure complete acoustic isolation of the offices from the gym Farrat put forward a comprehensive floating floor solution with a design comprising 70mm high Isomat Isolators with a dry sandwich construction comprising 12mm structural grade ply, 25mm acoustic soundboard, 15mm acoustic soundboard resulting in a total build up height of 122mm.

Despite the potential issues caused by the building’s busy and central city location AcouStruct supplied, delivered and installed the entire floating floor system quickly, safely and to a very high quality standard.

The client was extremely satisfied as once the system was installed and in operation it was not possible to hear or feel any jumping or running activities from the gym.
